Heidelberg United 1-1 (0-3 AET) Pascoe Vale
Pascoe Vale will return to the scene of its 2015 NPL Elimination final conquest when it faces Heidelberg United at Olympic Village on Sunday.
The Bergers will be out for revenge after succumbing to a determined Paco on that day, but will have a tough task breaking through a Pascoe Vale side that has only conceded once in 180 minutes so far this season.
George Katsakis’ side bounced back from a humiliating Round 1 loss against South Melbourne by humbling Melbourne Knights 6-1 at home last Sunday.
Five first half goals were more than enough to put Knights to the sword.
Pascoe Vale will head into the match with six points from its opening two encounters.
Wins against Avondale and Green Gully have provided Vitale Ferrante’s side with its best start to a campaign in years.
The goals have been shared to date with Joseph Youssef, Michael Ferrante, Luca Santilli and Jake Nakic getting themselves on the scoresheet.
The latter is expecting a tough challenge against Heidelberg – a team he rates highly.
“I thought that Heidelberg were the best team last year,” Nakic said to pvsc.com.au.
“The first time they played us, they pumped us 3-0. The second time, we lost 2-1.
“We’re expecting them to come out firing. We’ve got to be on our game, otherwise we’ll get smacked.”
Kick off at Olympic Village is at 16:00 on Sunday afternoon.
