Paco keeping it simple as Rising Star, Halliday, departs

2 months ago By PASCOE VALE FOOTBALL CLUB

One only needs to go back a handful of months to recall Pascoe Vale’s intention of retaining the bulk of its 2015 squad to see why little has changed.

While other National Premier League Victoria clubs splash the cash in furtherance of their ultimate goal of claiming the major prize, Paco coach Vitale Ferrante has demonstrated his faith in his existing charges.

The only exceptions to date includes the signing of Aaron Cohen from fellow NPL side, Green Gully, and the departure of left back Jake Halliday.

Cohen, who had previously spent time at Box Hill United will be looking to slot into Paco’s midfield, while Halliday, a former Adelaide United youth player, returns home to Adelaide after a successful stint in his first season in Victoria’s top flight.

Halliday, 20, took out the NPL Rising Star Award in 2015 after playing all 28 games in Pascoe Vale’s season.

The full-back becomes only the second player to leave Paco in this off season, with second-choice goalkeeper, Dennys Martin, leaving to seek opportunities at Kingston City.

Likewise, Cohen is only the second new signing for the club in addition to Luka Prelevic; a former Melbourne City youth player and NPL 1’s 2015 Rising Star.

Pascoe Vale enjoyed its most successful season in its history in last year’s NPL, reaching the preliminary final before being knocked out by South Melbourne after extra time.
