PRE-SEASON FREINDLY - SOUTH HOBART FC VS PVSC 31ST JANUARY 2015 AT DARCY STREET THEATRE OF DREAMS
A SIX goal first half saw National Premier Leagues Victoria side Pascoe Vale cruise past new look Victory League premiers South Hobart 6-1 in wet conditions at Darcy Street today.
Former South winger Connor Kass started at right wing and performed during the initial stages of the half while Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip’s son Davey bagged a first half hat-trick.
After a rather even start to the clash where a very young South side looked the goods to match it with their interstate counterparts, Carl Recchia opened the slotting home off a corner from close range on 14 minutes.
Victory League best and fairest and golden boot Brayden Mann levelled the tie in the 27th drilling home after a delightful centred ball from winger Chris Hunt. It was South’s first shot of the game.
However, Pascoe were far more menacing going forward and its sensational onslaught began by the 33rd minute mark.
Van’t Schip netted his first curling home from 18 yards in the 33rd before Nathen Megic buried from very close range after a double save from Kane Pierce two minutes later to make it 3-1.
South may have held their own early but slipped well off the pace as the half wore on in what was a physical meeting.
By the 38th it was 4-1 when van’t Schip slotted his second with a deflected strike before Jake Nakic made it five after bagging a rebounded corner in the 44th.
Van’t Schip completed his hat trick chipping Pierce in the 45th with a delightful curling strike from 18 yards to complete the 6-1 scoreline.
A goalless second half ensued where South attacked with a bit more purpose but couldn’t break down Pascoe’s defence due to a lack of quality in the final third.
The fitter and stronger Pascoe had chances but the job was done at the break.
South’s Alfred Hess made a second half appearance in a centre forward role while his fellow South signings, defenders Connor Schmidt and Oscar Thomas plus central midfielder Kobe Kemp, also took part.
Youngsters Alex Walter (who came off injured in the first half), Darcy Hall, Harrison Thomas and veteran centre back Dan Brown all made appearances too.
Centre forward Alex Leszczynski (unavailable) and defender Liam Quaile were the only new signings who didn’t take part.
