Reports - 2009
Round 1 - 26/04/2009
A
fantastic start for today's inaugural game for the
start of the 2009 season. The boys looked splendid in their new
uniforms. They looked and played like a real professional
outfit. The opposition was the U10 Lalor Joeys in the Orange
group of North 10 Joeys Sunday League. Our boys started the
strongest by putting 2 goals past Lalor’s sleeping defence.
Lalor then got 2 goals back. However, our boys made it very
difficult for the Lalor side to get any shots on goal.
At half time the score was even at 2 all. In the second half the
Lalor boys finished the stronger with 4 goals to our boys nil.
However, the final score line was not a true reflection of the
gutsy effort that our boys put in. Our boys kept trying to the
last minute. And to show how gutsy our boys were, Vincent in an
attempt to save a goal injured his hand. But even with an
injured hand he still managed to stop a goal. Some very
promising signs for our U10 Joeys. Special thanks should also go
to Fab for assisting me with the interchange and all the parents
for being great support for the boys.
Round 2 - 03/05/2009
Pascoe Vale met Meadow Park in their first home game of the
season. It was a glorious Sunday morning but Meadow Park started
the game better and scored two early goals. Pascoe Vale fought
hard and through some great team work and managed to get a goal
back. However, due to lack of experience the Pascoe Vale boys
lost concentration late in the first half and conceded a late
goal. At half time Pascoe Vale trailed 1-3.
Meadow Park scored first in the second half and Pascoe Vale had
a huge job ahead in trying to bring back the score. The boys
never gave up and through spirit and determination they mustered
a goal to bring the score back to 2-4. The game was still in the
balance. Unfortunately, Meadow Park finished the stronger and
scored another 3 goals. Pascoe Vale eventually went down 2- 7.
Regardless of the final score, the Pascoe Vale Joeys fought hard
and played with great enthusiasm and determination. They did not
give up even though they trailed all day. It was a great effort
by all. Well done boys.
Round 3 - 09/05/2009 The Pascoe Vale U10 Joeys Green team ventured to the
magnificent set up at Whittlesea Stallions. The boys were all
full of life and eager to impress their mothers on mothers' day.
We started the better of the two teams. We scored the first goal
from a well taken corner kick from Nikolas that had their keeper
mesmerized. It fell to Vincent's feet who tapped it in. From
that moment on the Stallions lifted a gear or two and took the
game to our boys. To our credit we kept on pressing up forward
with good work and signs of passing.
But we didn't apply enough pressure on them when they attacked,
forcing our keeper to work extremely hard. We kept trying all
day and never gave up always trying to get a goal or two.
Eventually with their persistence we were awarded a penalty.
Ayman stepped up to take it like a true professional. He struck
it beautifully, sending the keeper the other way only to be
denied by the woodwork. We were eventually rewarded short
afterwards with a goal scored by Ayman. At the other end our
keeper (Abdul) made some tremendous saves that had the
opposition applauding. Overall it was a tremendous effort by our
boys.
Round 4 - 17/05/2009
It was the U'10 Joeys Orange second home game for the season and
the North City Lions were the opposition. Both teams took their
positions on the pitch and the Lions looked the bigger and
stronger unit compared to Pascoe Vale. Once the game commenced
it was Pascoe Vale that were doing all the attacking. The first
goal was eventually scored by Pascoe Vale after 15 minutes of
the first half had passed. However, 5 minutes later, against the
run of play, the Lions managed a goal. The scores remained 1-1
at half time.
The second half was once again all Pascoe Vale. The boys kept on
attacking but finishing was the problem. The Lions defense was
holding up strong. Ten minutes into the second half, the Lions
attacked and scored. The Pascoe Vale Joeys now trailed 1-2. It
was from this point on that the Pascoe Vale Joeys showed their
determination and never give up attitude. The boys stuck to
their game and kept on applying pressure to the Lions defense
and goal keeper. The equalizer came with about with 5 minutes
left in the game. The score was now 2-2. The boys worked even
harder to find that winning goal and with only 2 minutes left in
the game they scored their 3rd goal. The Pascoe Vale Joeys got
up to defeat the Nth City Lions 3-2. The boys thoroughly
deserved the win after dominating the game. They showed real
character and never gave up, even though they trailed at one
stage. Well done to all the boys.
Round 5 - 24/05/2009 The U’10 Joeys Orange played Brunswick Zebras at home
this week. This turned out to be a tough game for both teams.
Both defenses held up strong throughout the first half and
chances on goal were limited. Midway through the first half the
Zebras won a corner. The corner kick took a deflection and ended
up in the Pascoe Vale goal. The Zebras held onto their slender
1-0 lead at half time. The Pascoe Vale Joeys came out fighting
in the second half. They never stopped trying to find that
equalizer.
However, it was the Zebras who scored a lucky second goal from
another deflection. The Pascoe Vale Joeys now trailed 0-2 and
luck was not on their side. The Brunswick Zebras scored late in
the game to make the final score 0-3. Despite going down, the
Pascoe Vale Joeys played quite well. In a game of tight defenses
all the luck went the way of the Zebras and it was luck that was
the difference in an evenly contested game. The Pascoe Vale
Joeys fought hard all day against the odds and can hold their
heads up high. Hopefully, luck will be on their side next time.
Round 6 - 31/05/2009
On a foggy Sunday morning the U’10 Joeys Orange ventured out to
Gladstone Park to tackle Meadow Park. Once the fog cleared it
turned out to be an ideal morning for a game of football. Pascoe
Vale settled quickly with the opening goal of the game. However,
Meadow Park fought their way back into the game with 2 goals.
The game was turning out to be a very even and tough game.
Pascoe Vale bounced back to equalise but Meadow Park managed to
score late in the first half. Pascoe Vale trailed 2-3 at half
time.
With no substitutes on the bench, the Pascoe Vale joeys had to
find that extra energy to run out the second half. It was Pascoe
Vale that scored first in the second half to make the score 3-3.
Both teams really tried hard and played with great enthusiasm
and determination in trying to score the winner. Meadow Park
managed to score the crucial goal. However, there was still time
for Pascoe Vale to come back. The boys created lots of chances
but just couldn't finish. The equaliser never came and Pascoe
Vale went down 3-4. However, it turned out to be an entertaining
and competitive game by both sides. The boys were totally
exhausted after the game which proved that they tried hard all
day. Great game boys.
Round 7 - 14/06/2009
This week the Pascoe Vale U'10 Joeys Orange hosted Diamond
Valley. Considering how cold the weather has been during the
week, it turned out to be a perfect morning for a game of SSF.
This game was going to be a challenge for Pascoe Vale Joeys.
Diamond Valley fielded a physically bigger team than Pascoe
Vale. From the very beginning of the game Diamond Valley did all
the attacking and had jumped to a 4 nil lead. Pascoe Vale did
not give up and kept applying pressure. Pascoe Vale managed to
score before half time through some good finishing. Pascoe Vale
trailed 1-4 at half time.
In the second half Pascoe Vale were still finding it hard to
compete against the bigger and stronger bodies of Diamond
Valley. Diamond Valley scored another 4 goals while Pascoe Vale
converted a well deserved penalty. Pascoe Vale eventually went
down 2-8. Despite the score line, the Pascoe Vale Joeys earnt
themselves a 10 out of 10 for their effort, courage, bravery and
determination against a team that was much bigger and stronger.
The boys managed to put together some good passes and created a
number of chances which was great to see. Fantastic effort from
all boys.
Round 8 - 21/06/2009
The Pascoe Vale U'10 Joeys Orange played away to Brunswick City
this week. The two teams were quite evenly matched. It was
Brunswick City that scored first and the score remained 1-0 to
Brunswick for the majority of the first half. Both teams had
several chances of scoring but were unable to finish. However,
late in the first half Brunswick managed to score two late goals
and took a 3-0 lead into half time. The second half was very
much the same as the first half. The only difference was that
Brunswick made the most of their goal scoring chances while
Pascoe Vale did not. Final score was 0-6 to Brunswick City.
Considering all the chances the Pascoe Vale boys had, it was
unfortunate that they did not score 2 or 3 goals themselves. It
would have been well deserved. However, it wasn’t to be.
Regardless, it was still a great effort by all the boys and I am
confident that success will come our way soon.
Round 9 - 28/06/2009
The Pascoe Vale U’10 Joeys orange were at home to Sunbury United
this week. It was a glorious sunny Sunday morning and the
conditions were perfect for a game of SSF. Pascoe Vale started
the better and scored the first 2 goals of the game. The boys
had numerous chances but could not capitalise. Sunbury managed
to get a goal back and the score was 2-1 at half time with
Pascoe vale leading. Sunbury got on top in the second half and
scored the first two goals. Pascoe Vale now trailed by a goal
but the boys tried very hard to get back into the game. By
applying continuous pressure on Sunbury, Pascoe Vale scored the
equaliser and the scores were now 3 all. The game was now in the
balance and the intensity of both teams increased. Unfortunately
it was Sunbury that scored the winner to make the final score
4-3. Overall, this was a very good competitive game. The Pascoe
Vale joeys played well and were always in the game. The boys
scored some great goals and put together some great passing.
Well done to all the boys.
Round 10 - 12/07/2009
To start the second half of the season, the Pascoe Vale U’10
Joeys orange were at home to Lalor this week. This game turned
out to be a very evenly contested game. Pascoe Vale had the
better of the first half. However, the boys were unfortunate in
converting. Two great attempts on goal were denied by the
woodwork. At the other end of the ground, the backline held up
well and were very solid. The halftime score was deadlocked at
0-0. The game continued in the same manner as the first half.
Pascoe Vale held up very well in defence and tried very hard to
score that elusive goal. Unfortunately, midway through the
second half, Pascoe Vale conceded a penalty. Lalor converted and
Pascoe Vale now trailed 0-1. Five minutes later against the run
of play, Lalor scored a second. For the last ten minutes of the
game Pascoe vale fought hard and never gave up. The boys were
rewarded with a late goal. Pascoe Vale eventually went down 1-2
to Lalor. This game was the first to start the second half of
the season. The boys were very competitive against Lalor which
proves that the boys have come a long way since their first
game. It was a great game by all the boys.
Round 11 - 19/07/2009
The Pascoe Vale U’10 Joeys orange were away to Meadow Park for
an early 9.00am kick off. Based on the last time these two teams
played, Pascoe Vale was up for a tough game. The boys from
Meadow Park are an older, stronger and more experienced side
than Pascoe Vale. However, our boys were out to prove that they
were up to the challenge. Pascoe Vale started the first half
kicking against the wind. Meadow Park scored the first 2 goals
but after some great pressure and determination Pascoe Vale
scored. At half time Pascoe Vale trailed 1-2. It was a tough
second half but Pascoe Vale probably had the better of it on the
ground but unfortunately not on the score board. The more
experienced Meadow Park scored twice while Pascoe Vale was
denied by the woodwork twice. Pascoe Vale managed a fantastic
late goal to make the final score 2-4 to Meadow Park. This game
was a vast improvement compared to when these two sides played
earlier in the season. The boys are really improving and I am
confident that success will shortly come their way. Keep up the
good work boys.
Round 12 - 26/07/2009
The Pascoe Vale U’10 Joeys Orange played home to Bundoora United
this week. This game was a fairly even contest but the
difference was that Bundoora capitalized on their chances while
Pascoe Vale didn’t. The positives to take from this game for
Pascoe Vale, was the excellent goal keeping and the amount of
goal scoring chances created. The boys tried very hard but were
just outclassed on the day. Final score was 4-0 to Bundoora
United.
Round 13 - 3/08/2009
The Pascoe Vale U’10 Joeys Orange played away to the North City
Lions this week. The boys were hungry for success this week and
to improve on last week’s effort. That they did. From the start
of the game, with the wind behind them, it was all Pascoe Vale.
The ball hardly made it into the Pascoe Vale defensive half. By
half time Pascoe Vale led 3-0. The Lions attacked hard with the
wind in the second half and looked like scoring. However, the
Pascoe Vale boys defended desperately and managed to score two
goals against the wind. This was the first time all season that
the boys kept a clean sheet. It ended 5-0 to Pascoe Vale. The
boys can be very proud of their efforts today. Well played by
the whole team.
Round 14 - 09/08/2009
The U’10 Joeys Orange played Brunswick Zebras away this week.
Both defences held up strong in the first half. There was a
great deal of intensity and desperation shown by both teams. It
eventually took an exceptional goal, late in the half, by the
Zebras to break the dead lock. At half time the Zebras led 1-0.
In the second half, Pascoe Vale pushed further forward to try
and find the equaliser. However, the Zebras capitalised on this
and scored. The Zebras also managed to score from some defensive
errors by Pascoe Vale. A consolation goal was eventually scored
by Pascoe Vale to make the final score 1-5 to the Brunswick
Zebras. The final score was not a true reflection of how Pascoe
Vale played. The boys were very competitive and had the same
amount of goal scoring opportunities as Brunswick. It was a
great effort by all.
Round 15 - 16/08/2009
The U’10 Joeys Orange played home to Meadow Park this week.
Strong winds and rain made the conditions hard for both sides.
Nevertheless the game still proved to be an entertaining one
with goals a plenty. Pascoe Vale settled quickly and scored the
first 3 goals of the game. Meadow Park got back into the game
with a couple of goals, but it was Pascoe Vale that led 6-2 at
half time. In the second half Meadow Park lifted, and challenged
Pascoe Vale. However, through some good strong defending and
goal keeping it was Pascoe Vale that ran out victors 8-5. This
was a highly entertaining game by both sides. There were some
fantastic goals scored and it was very well done by all the boys
who braved the tough conditions. Well done by the whole team.
Round 16 - 23/08/2009 The U’10 Joeys Orange travelled to Greensborough to play
Diamond Valley. The boys were without their usual coach for the
day but adapted very well with Anna at the helm. At half time
the score was locked at 0-0. In the second half, the more
experienced Diamond Valley capitalised on some of Pascoe Vale’s
errors by scoring goals. However, Pascoe Vale also managed to
score a goal themselves. The final score was 4-1 to Diamond
Valley. Pascoe Vale played with great courage and determination
against the bigger and more physical outfit in Diamond Valley.
The 4-1 result was a huge improvement on the result earlier in
the year. It was a great effort by all the boys. Finally, a big
thanks must go to Anna for coaching the boys on the day.
